Service Description

Please contact us before booking, if you have not trained with us before. Rally training happens on Wednesday evenings - 6.30pm to 8.45pm (including a 15 min break to set up the courses) and later finish indoors. (up to 9.30pm) Two-hour sessions run for 6 weeks and are trained outdoors in the summer at St John's Church Hall, in dry weather and indoors at Leadgate Community Centre in wet weather. One-hour group training followed by course training. This is a course for the dog and handler who would like to take a different route to their dog training. Dogs and handlers are trained in a wide range of movements which they perform in a sequence following signs. Rally suits dogs with basic training and handlers of all ages and abilities. This newer dog sport builds excellent relationships between the dog and handler in a fun environment. We are the first group in County Durham to offer this type of training. Many of the club's handlers compete with their dogs at Kennel Club Rally Shows. You do not have to be interested in competing to attend these classes, just the want to train your dog in a fun and exciting way. These classes would also suit handlers who want to do something extra with their dog but for whom, agility would not suit the dog or the handler. Classes are kept small to allow for ample opportunities for quality training. Beginners and more experienced dogs are welcome, but as with Agility and Good Citizen Classes, these are not courses for dogs with reactivity issues or behavioural concerns. For such dogs please refer to our behavioural services. Rally is the very latest dog sport to be recognised by the Kennel Club.  It's fun and no matter what level you and your dog may be at it's easy to get involved and start training and competing. Rally involves you and your dog working as a team to navigate a course with numbered signs indicating different exercises to perform; think of it as a sort of 'obedience exercise obstacle course' including simple exercises. The course is set by the judge or trainer.  There is no pause between exercises - you and your dog work briskly through the course without direction from the judge. You are encouraged to talk to and praise your dog during the performance. Any dog can get involved; your dog does not have to be a pedigree dog to take part, but if you want to compete it must be registered with the Kennel Club on either the Breed Register or the Activity Register.
