Kennel Club Accredited Instructors Scheme (KCAI)

Choosing the right dog training instructor is one of the most important decisions you’ll make for you and your dog.

In order to provide you with a wide and accessible choice of dog training instructors and canine behaviourists who have proven specialist knowledge skills and experience, the Kennel Club maintains an online register of it’s Accredited Trainers.

A Kennel Club Accredited Trainer will:

> Have at least 5 years experience

> Have been rigorously assessed in theory and practice against a robust standard set by the Kennel Club to confirm they are able to provide quality services and advice to dog owners. To gain the high standard needed to pass they will have spent hours studying and attending courses.

> Be required to abide by the scheme’s code of practice which sets out the standards governing both their professional conduct and training practices. Being part of the KCAI Scheme means they have undertaken to promote and use suitable and motivational methods consistent with principles of kindness, fairness and good welfare of dogs.

> Have had their application and assessment approved by the KCAI board.

> Have achieved accreditation from City and Guilds, the benchmark of quality. The KCAI Scheme is the UK’s leading membership scheme for dog training instructors and canine behaviourists, which offers its members the opportunity to gain a nationally-recognised vocational accreditation based on a robust standard set by the Kennel Club. It is the first and only scheme for dog training instructors that have achieved programme accreditation from City & Guilds, a globally-recognised benchmark of quality.
